Beginners

Yoga is for every body. Whatever your age, condition, or background, AYP yoga is yoga for you. Designed for ​all levels, from beginner through advanced, our classes offer a balanced and complete body-mind-spirit practice that develops strength, flexibility, focused awareness, and overall well-being.

We love beginners!

I'm not flexible. I'm so out of shape. I'm scared. -- the common concerns we hear from those new to yoga.

At AYP, we encourage our students/members to honor their temples, exactly as they are today, by listening to the body and progressing intuitively. Yogis practicing alongside each other inspires our progress, but we're not competing against anyone but ourselves. 
Every yogi has to start somewhere (yes, even the fancy Instagram yogis).

Yoga is a practice and a lifelong journey. It is not about doing the postures perfectly. As long as you give your best effort, you will receive the same therapeutic benefit as someone who has practiced for years and obtained a high level of flexibility, strength, and balance.

​Classes Designed for All Levels

What You Need To Know

GENERAL YOGA TIPS
  • Always discuss any injuries or health issues with the teacher before class.
  • Let the teacher know if you prefer not to be adjusted/touched.
  • Wear something you are comfortable sweating in. Breathable fabric is highly desirable.
  • Come to our classes fully hydrated and on an empty stomach.​ We suggest drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Yoga mats are required in the studio.  (There are mats available for you to rent or purchase.)
ASHTANGA
  • Mysore and Intro To Ashtanga classes are the best place to start for beginners to yoga/ashtanga. Ashtanga differs from the modern way yoga is typically taught.
  • Mysore: Beginners can plan on needing 30-45 minutes for their first Mysore class. Mysore classes are not led as modernly known. Rather, instruction is one-on-one within the group class setting. Students practice their own portion of the Ashtanga sequence of asana at their own pace, as given by their teacher.
